Dr. Parthasarathi Mukhopadhyay

Dr. Parthasarathi Mukhopadhyay, Scientist F and Project Director, Monson Mission IITM Pune, did his Bachelors in Physics in 1985, Masters in Physics in 1988 and M. Tech in Atmospheric Sciences in 1990 from Calcutta University and PhD from Savitribai Phule Pune University in 2005. He has more than 28 years of experience in the field of Atmospheric Sciences. He has done extensive research and made fundamental contribution in the field of Numerical Weather Prediction, development of Cloud and convection parameterization, Dynamical core development in General circulation model and Mesoscale model. In recognition to significant contribution in the field of Atmospheric Sciences, he has been elected as FELLOW OF INDIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES, BANGALORE IN 2022 (effective from 2023). He has published 84 peer reviewed papers in National and International journals, 5 book chapters and edited books. He has received Ministry of Earth Sciences’ Certificate of Merit in 2015 for outstanding contribution in the field of Atmospheric Sciences. He has received the Golden Jubilee Award of IITM for significant contribution in the field of Atmospheric Sciences in 2020. He has guided/mentored many students for Masters (14 students) and PhD (10 awarded, 3 ongoing) degree. He has become a member of WMO World Weather Research Programme (WWRP) working group on Tropical Meteorology Research. He is a Member of International Asian Australian GEWEX Monsoon Panel (CLIVAR) and serving as an associate editor of Journal of Earth System Science (JESS), published by Indian Academy of Science, Bengaluru.
